The "Young Barristers” had a meeting with journalists on the issue of the disputed property of Giorgi Papuashvili

The “Young Barristers”, taking into consideration the high public interest, introduces the research published in October, 2014: “System against the Citizen” to the representatives of leading Georgian printed and electronic media publishers. The meeting was held at Georgian Bar Association and was attended by more than 15 journalists working in the field of justice, politics and social issues.

According to statement of chief-executive of the “Young Barristers” – Archil Kaikatsishvili, following the research published by the organization, according to which first time became known to broad society the fact of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Georgia - Giorgi Papuashvili until now lives in the deprived house, various questions concerning legal and factual context was raised from press corps towards the authors of the research. Therefore, the organization has decided to host a meeting with representatives of the leading media and has open dialogue regarding all aspects of the issue. In addition, for productivity of the dialogue, had taken the decision to hold the meeting in a closed format, where the conversation focused on future plans and strategies of the legal dispute.

For the information: The issue is related to the case, the history of which became known to broad society first time. The implemented monitoring reports the case of Roland Bladadze who turned out to be among those who were deprived of property against their will in 2004, while in 2007 the former president Mikheil Saakashvili transferred the deprived property of Roland Bladadze to the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Georgia - Giorgi Papuashvili at a symbolic price, 1000 GEL.

The “Young Barristers” in the framework of implemented monitoring has already addressed the recommendations to the executive, legislative and judicial authorities. English version of the research has already been sent to the diplomatic representatives in Georgia, to the Constitutional Courts of 20 European countries, to the Venice Commission and international organizations.

The first response on the case was from the European Parliament, which clearly stated on the 10 November 2014 letter sent to the organization, that Roland Bladadze case is specific and the State should have an adequate real solution regarding the issue. The Council of Europe also responded to the case on 28th of November, 2014, and noted, that the government should take the relevant decisions taking into consideration the rights and interests of the victims regarding the deprived property cases.

The “Young Barristers” continues discussion in the professional circles in order to introduce the published research. After the meeting held with the press corps, is planned to meet with experts of the European Court.

The meeting was led by: the Chairman of the Georgian Bar Association, Zaza Khatiashvili, head of legal group of the “Young Barristers”, Ana Kiknadze, with the reprezentativeis of Roland Bladadze’s legitimate interests: Nana Tsuladze and Archil Kaikatsishvili.
