20 non-government organization appeals to the government on the issue of public security

A round table of discussion was held by “Young Barristers” on the issue of "public safety and non-governmental organizations". More than 20 non-governmental organizations discussed issues of national security and public safety at the meeting and appealed a joint statement to the government on the issue of the protection of public safety.

"We believe that in the process of the security, stability and the protection of civil rights, non-governmental organizations working in Georgia have a special responsibility. Accordingly, if the third sector take part in the turmoil, directly damage civil institutions. Therefore, Georgian executive authorities should pay particular attention to the protection of public safety, to implement legally allowed preventions and to carry out the provisions for the protection of the fundamental concept of national security activities "- said in the text.

The Participants of the roundtable also pay attention to the role of  non-governmental organizations in the civil, legal and political processes. "We call on civil society representatives to pursue a particular legal responsibility when there is a high probability to use their activities for the purposes of the opposition. The organization positively evaluates civic engagement, however it is inadmissible to implement the views of society by violation of the rule of law. If there is an assignment to involve any group in the implementation and fullfilment of anti-constitutional activities, it is essential to make public the evidence of such actions”-said in the statement.

Co-founder and director of “Young Barristers”, Archil Kaikatsishvili states, that dialogue among the non-governmental organizations representatives about the public security, stability and civil rights issues will contribute to an objective assessment of recent challenges and conditions. It is unacceptable, that public institutions and their activities are targeted to be used for acts which endanger the public peace. Therefore, At the meeting there was widely exposed national security issues, state obligations, constitutional guarantees of security, assessed the impact of stability on the economic processes, the auddience discussed the role of civil society in the current process.

The "Young Barristers" related to the issue, proposes a broad dialogue with the public to assess the effects that are related to the development of the country.
